'The Passing of a Warrior'

Today one of our brothers
has gone on to the far side of the wall
There he walks again among his friends
his honored kin and comrades

Tonight there is a hole in my heart
I ache for the loss of my brother
though I rejoice in his rejoining
on the far side of the wall

Tonight a calm soul
and a dignified friend
has found his peace at last
on the far side of the wall

Tonight my long passed brothers
welcome one of our own
whole and smiling again
to the far side of the wall

Tonight there will be tears
a remembrance of him here
fond stories and hard grief
but not on the far side of the wall

Tonight our lives turn a shade darker

We are all made to see a little starker
but only for us, this pain falls
on this side of the wall

Tonight there's a welcoming
tonight there is healing
tonight my warrior brother
went to the far side of the wall

Another brother falls, and we are all diminished.

God Speed. Drive on my Brother.

THE WATERY GRAVE OF THE UNKNOWN SAILOR

No cross marks the grave where now we lie,
What happened is known but to us.
You asked and we gave our lives to protect our land,
From the world’s greatest curse.
Your ships now proudly ride the sea,
‘Tis your tribute to our endeavor’.
We ask no day of the year to mourn us.
We ask you just to remember.
No Flanders Field where poppies blow,
No gleaming crosses row on row,
No unnamed tomb for all to see, and
Pause, and wonder who we might be.
‘Tis the grave of our choice,
Where now we lie.
And view ye mortals passing by,
Steaming busily on changing wave.
Go quietly now, you’re o’er our graves
Remember, remember those who rest in watery graves.

(To those who have gone before me,

those who went with me,

and those who have gone and shall go after me)

I knew you not

But You Are My Brother

We never met

And yet, you're close to me

You heard the call

And placed your life in harm’s way

You went "over there"

And paid the highest price

How great a charge

For you to take upon your back

That other men

May live as free

What gallant and more noble cause

Than that you saw it fit

To think to give your life

To see me free

My gratitude for you

Grows ever strong

-

You were the lead for me

I also heard the call

I went "over there"

And saw you there

You walked with me

And I with you

I saw you fall

And never rise again

I saw you walk away

And many didn't care

That you would think to give your life

So they may live as free

But it's OK, you didn't mind

Giving yourself for them as well

It was my Honor to have served

With such a one as you

You live within my heart

For ever, ever more

-

You are "over there"

You heard the call

You live and fight

You've taken up the cause

You lay your life out on the field

Where death is near and all too real

For you too believe it is worth while

That those you love should live as free

I know you are there

And know the struggle for your cause

The price of freedom isn't free

It's paid with blood and lives like yours

Be safe and hurry back

I pray that God will keep you in His hand

And know that deep within my heart

There is a place carved out for you

Because from now on, forever more

YOU ARE MY BROTHER

-

And You, You who

Live and Fight and Die beside my Brother,

YOU ARE MY SISTER.
